Sea glass has long been a favorite item for home decor, jewelry and for those who are creative, making sea glass art. There is virtually no limit to the art that is possible with this. Here are some ideas for those wanting to get started using this popular glass made by the sea.
Tree In Spring
This is as easy a project as there could be. Even someone with little or no artistic ability could make a beautiful piece of art. Simply start by choosing a canvas to place the artful tree on. Gather some small driftwood. Place one piece at the bottom facing horizontally as the roots of the tree. Then place on a twig vertically that is centered with the roots. This is the base of the tree. Next place a branch on the right and one on the left that is slightly higher up. From there it is simply a matter of gluing the pieces of green sea glass as leaves to fill out the tree.
Crab In The Sand
For this project take a shallow boxed frame with backing. Place glue on the backing and add a thin layer of sand. Let this set before making the crab. Place a large piece of sea glass in the center as the crab’s body. Then place 2 small pieces near the center of the top of the body for the crab’s eyes. These should be a different color from the body. Then take some small oblong shaped pieces to make 3 small legs on each side of the bottom part of the body. Next use pieces to make the claws on each side of the upper part of the body. These should all be glued to the sand. Frame this and it makes a great piece of art.
This is a simple but very nice artistic idea. Take an old rectangle piece of wood. Sand it and place a finish or leave it with its natural look. Put 2 holes in the top, one on each side. Then place a heavy duty string through the holes and tie knots big enough they are not able to go back through the holes. This string will be used to hang it on the wall when the project is finished.
Then at the bottom slightly to the right side make a big mushroom in the middle and one small one on each side of the big one. Simply choose a piece suitable for the stem and one for the flared mushroom top. Then in the middle make 3 small mushrooms slightly off centered to the left. Near the top make one small and one big mushroom slightly to the right. That’s it, a simple but artistic mushroom board.
It is easy to see that projects like these are simple and yet they are beautiful and artistic. These types of sea glass art are sufficiently creative for the experienced and still easy enough for a beginner to do. Anyone who likes sea glass is sure to get lasting joy by making one of these projects.
